Bring your town’s independents onto Gradia.
A self-employed commercial role with a town of your own. You walk into independent businesses near your university, get them listing a free student offer on Gradia, and make short videos for the stores on the app.

Your town
Bristol
An example. One ambassador per town.
Your own town
One ambassador per town
Self-employed
You choose when you go out
Real conversations
Independent shops, cafés and salons
Backed by the team
Check-ins at 30 and 90 days
You open the door. We handle the rest.
Listing on Gradia is free for businesses, so there is nothing to haggle over. Your job is the first conversation.
What you do
Walk into independent businesses
Cafés, barbers, salons, shops and restaurants in your town. You get them listing a free student offer on Gradia.
Make short videos
For stores on the app, with their permission, and for Gradia itself.
What you never do
You are a self-employed introducer, not an employee or agent of Gradia. When a business has questions about terms, you put them in touch with us.
- Quote prices or rates
- Negotiate anything
- Sign anything on Gradia’s behalf
- Sell anything
A whole town, with your name on it.
A whole town
Your territory is the town where you study. Not a radius, not a few streets.
Yours alone
One ambassador per town, from day one, unless you ask us to add a second. Independent businesses in your town that join Gradia after you start count as yours, whoever signs them up.
Reviewed together
We talk at 30 days and again at 90 to see how it is going. It is a conversation, not a target.
You keep what you sign
The businesses you sign stay yours.
A few businesses are handled separately: those already on Gradia before you start, those already talking to us, and chains with several sites, which we handle centrally. Your agreement lists the details.
From application to your first five doors.
Apply
A short form. The question that matters: which five places in your town would you walk into first, and why?
A short call
Fifteen to twenty minutes on Zoom. We walk you through the role and exactly how it is paid.
Your town, in writing
If it is a fit, you get an offer, your agreement and your town, confirmed.
Five doors in week one
Five real conversations with businesses in your town, then we talk again.
Check-ins
We catch up at 30 days and again at 90.
People who can walk in and ask for the manager.
Society committee members, people who have worked in retail or hospitality, anyone who has organised an event or talked a room round. You do not need followers. You do need to be comfortable walking into a shop you have never been in and starting a conversation.
Apply for your townClear from day one.
No vapes, tobacco or gambling. Some Gradia users are 16, so we never sign businesses in those trades. Bars and pubs are welcome: they check ID at the till as usual (Challenge 25).
Ask before you film. A business listing on Gradia has not agreed to be filmed. Anything you post on your own channels carries #ad.
Respect the premises. Nothing on university, students’ union or private premises without permission.
You are self-employed. You are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance.
The things people actually ask.
Is it paid?
Yes. You earn commission from the businesses and students in your town, and videos are paid when we approve them. We take you through exactly how it works on the call, and every number is in your agreement before you say yes.
Do I need a big following?
No. We look for people who can organise and talk to strangers, not audience size. A society committee role or a job in retail or hospitality tells us more than a follower count.
How much time does it take?
You decide. The role is self-employed, so you choose when you go out. We suggest starting with five real conversations in your first week, then we talk about what suits you.
Which town would be mine?
Usually the town where you study. We confirm it with you on the call. It is yours alone, one ambassador per town. We only bring in a second ambassador if you ask us to. We review how it is going together at 30 and 90 days. The businesses you sign stay yours.
Do I have to sell anything?
No. Listing on Gradia is free for businesses. You start the conversation and help them set up their offer. You never quote prices, negotiate or sign anything on Gradia’s behalf.
When do I get paid?
Monthly, on the last working day, into your UK bank account, once your confirmed balance reaches the minimum set out in your agreement. Anything below the minimum rolls over and is never lost, and it is paid in full if you leave.
What about tax?
You are self-employed, so you are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance. Keep records of what you earn and check the current GOV.UK guidance, or ask an accountant if you are unsure.
Is your town still open?
We are starting with a handful of towns and one ambassador in each. Every application is read by the Gradia team.
